Committing to a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training is a significant decision — in time, investment, and energy. Before you sign up for any program, you deserve a clear, honest picture of what the experience actually involves. Here's what you can expect from AYM's 2026/27 yoga teacher training in Montreal.
Teaching from day one
Most teacher training programs are structured to front-load content — weeks or months of theory before you ever practice teaching. AYM takes a fundamentally different approach.
From the very first weekend, you'll be actively practicing the skills of instruction, demonstration, and adjustment. The philosophy behind this is simple: the best way to understand a pose is to help someone else into it. Teaching becomes another form of practice, and learning and teaching become inseparable throughout the program.
Learn, do, teach. Then learn more, do more, teach more. The cycle starts immediately and continues well beyond the program.
The weekend structure
The program runs across seven weekends, one per month from September 2026 to March 2027, with an additional eight workshops scheduled throughout the year.
Weekend days run from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Workshop days run from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. All sessions are recorded, so if life gets in the way you can revisit anything at your convenience for the duration of the program.
Here's a sense of what each month covers:
• September: Yoga history, philosophy, and an introduction to anatomy including the subtle body.
• October: Breath, the nervous system, and a practical introduction to Restorative yoga.
• November: Sequencing principles and teaching methodology.
• December: Foundations of Ashtanga and the underlying principles of Vinyasa.
• January: Preparing and leading classes, applied teaching practice.
• February: Finding your teaching path, business of yoga, ethics and touch.
• March: Final weekend, practice teaching and setting up as a teacher.
Who Will Be Teaching Your Yoga Teacher Training in Montreal
The program is co-led by Jeanne Mudie and Shankara Darby, with anatomy delivered by Leslie Kaminoff — co-author of Yoga Anatomy, the best-selling yoga book in the world with over half a million copies in print. Guest professors Terri McCollum, Michael Bridge-Dickson, and Kate Markle each bring deep expertise in philosophy, injury prevention, and accessible yoga respectively.
These are not generic instructors filling module slots. Each teacher brings a specific and substantial body of knowledge, and the program is designed around their respective expertise.
