Steve Paxton developed this material over the last 30 year from his curiosity in how awareness and perception work. As the creator of Contact Improvisation and from his experience in dance, yoga, aikido and meditation over 50 years, his material covers a diverse spectrum yet specifically centers on spinal function. The material trains a person to become more aware of their spine, increase awareness in motion, detangle habitual patterns that are limiting movement/alignment, heighten agility and explore improvisation scores that elucidate the body as it is.

Buddhist meditation and dialogue practices to enhance mind and body awareness to support better engaged living.
Every Tuesday night from 7:40 to 8:50 pm
Join Allison on Tuesday evenings for Vipassana meditation sessions in the Theravada tradition. This meditation form is a perfect compliment to Asana yoga practice because it introduces students to the inner limbs of Yoga (sensory gathering, concentration, contemplation, insight and samadhi.) These meditation techniques reduce stress and gather one’s attention to effectively center the mind in the present moment for optimal living.
Starting in September we will continue our sitting meditation, walking meditation and dialogue practices with the support of studying the Four Noble Truths and the Four Immeasurables (base teachings of the Buddha). Then in November and December to expand our understanding of viewpoints, we will study ancient text, The Bhagavad Gita from a Buddhist perspective.
Practitioners of all levels of experience are welcome to join in at anytime.
Investment: $10 per course or by donation.

Valentine’s Day Partner Yoga
Part 1: Shoulder Openers and Stabilization with Allison Ulan
Feb.18, 2012 (Saturday) 2:30 – 5:30pm
This workshop will focus on finding a sense of balance within the spine to aid in balance in the shoulder girdle. Key elements to be understood will be how to release tension, reduce effort, find neutral alignment, strengthen weaknesses and experience the liberation of the shoulders. We will also take a look at how tightness in the shoulders can affect the rest of the body.
Part 2: Arm Balances and Handstands with Julien Gagnon
Feb.25, 2012 (Saturday) 2:30 – 5:30pm
The art of arm balances and handstands, as yoga teaches us, comes from balance and alignment rather than force and rigidity. Yes we do need arms strength, but we will explore how the hips, core and breath hold the key to arm balancing
and they respond best to smooth and conscious movement!
